Damar Hamlin sends heartfelt message to Tua Tagovailoa after latest concussion

Buffalo Bills’ Damar Hamlin has extended a heartfelt message to Tua Tagovailoa, the Miami Dolphins quarterback, following his concussion during Thursday’s game at Hard Rock Stadium.
Tagovailoa was forced to exit the game in the third quarter after enduring a heavy hit from defensive back Hamlin while attempting a first down. The 26-year-old was promptly ruled out for the rest of the game due to a concussion by medical staff.
This marks the third time the former Alabama star has been diagnosed with a concussion since joining the Dolphins in 2020. His latest head injury has led to calls from fans and commentators alike for the Hawaiian to seriously contemplate retirement.
Hamlin himself experienced a health scare in January 2023 when he collapsed during a Monday Night Football match against the Cincinnati Bengals, suffering a cardiac arrest. He battled for his life in hospital before making a comeback to play for the Bills.
Following Thursday’s game, which saw the Bills secure a 31-10 victory on the road, the 26-year-old expressed his well wishes for Tagovailoa.
“My love and prayers with Tua fasho [sic],” Hamlin posted on X. “Sending you strength and healing for a speedy recovery. Much love, broski.”
Quarterback Josh Allen of the Bills expressed his dismay at the situation, saying: “Very sad. It’s the worst part of the game. Nothing but love and prayers to him and his family, and hopefully everyone is sending those because he’s going to need them.”
Before the injury struck, it had been a tough outing for Tagovailoa and the Miami squad. He ended with 145 passing yards, scoring one touchdown, but was marred by three critical interceptions that saw him exit the game.
The Dolphins’ inability to counter Buffalo’s aggressive play, especially in the air, gave the Bills the upper hand in field position all night. James Cook particularly shined, tearing up the ground with 78 yards and two rushing touchdowns from just 11 attempts, plus catching a pass for a 17-yard touchdown, rounding out a standout performance for the running back.
This triumph positions Buffalo at the helm of the division, raising concerns for Miami about many issues, including the future role of their quarterback who recently inked a new four-year, $212 million deal.
Post-game, Miami Head Coach Mike McDaniel focused on the immediate concerns for his players, emphasizing: “I’m just worried about my teammate like the rest of the guys are. We’ll get more information tomorrow and then take it day by day from there.”
